Event styling & tablescapes in Amsterdam
With a love for colour, vintage and sustainability, Merlijn — founder of Magasin plus Couleur — designs tailor-made tablescapes and full event styling, from intimate dinners to brand activations and cultural events.
The styling industry produces a lot of waste, decor bought for a single event and binned the next day, fast-fashion fabrics, and use of toxic flower foam. Magasin plus Couleur is built the other way around: tablescapes made from vintage, secondhand or rented pieces, dead-stock fabrics, no flower foam, and tableware that's rented and reused rather than bought new for one night.
Having worked in the events industry both as a tableware supplier and as an event producer, Merlijn knows event production inside and out. Years in the creative industry means a network of florists, printers, and suppliers to call on for exactly what an event needs.
What's included
Every project is tailor-made, but styling typically covers: the full tablescape (tableware, glassware, linens and florals styled as one scene, not separate rentals), custom details like menu cards and embroidered napkins and coordinating all the suppliers for the styling.

Peugeot — press days at NDSM
For Peugeot's press days at NDSM Amsterdam, Merlijn was asked to style the tablescape for their influencer event: designing the menu cards, arranging the flowers, embroidering the napkins, and styling the table as a whole.
Amsterdam Museum — Freedom Lunch
For Amsterdam Museum's Freedom Lunch on May 5th, with a lineup of speakers, the tablescape incorporated a softer take on the colours of the Dutch flag, with a touch of orange worked into the florals as a nod to the national colour.
Summer dinner — mixed & matched
For a summer dinner styled entirely in mismatched vintage pieces — plates, glassware, and table linen mixed across colours and patterns — nothing on the table matched, and somehow, everything did. It's exactly the kind of colourful, imperfectly-put-together tablescape Magasin plus Couleur is built around.
Rebranding event – Magasin plus Couleur
June 2025 we launched the rebranding of Magasin plus Couleur. We wanted to have a small and personal gathering to celebrate the brand. In the design of the set we wanted to give a nostalgic feeling. The feeling of having a dinner outside in the summer sun while the laundry is drying in the summer breeze. The colours used for the event reflect the new brand colours: orange, pink & aubergine.
Opening studio donge
For the opening of studio donge we took care of the event styling. The main colour we focused on was ice blue. We wanted to make a 'light' styling by using see through fabric for the draping on the ceiling & the table. The branded cards were also produced by us.
